Getting Yourself to Power Shift
There are heaps of ways to get yourself to Auckland!
Below are details for the major travel options available for Power Shift. We’re super keen to help as much as we can so if you have any questions email Gen at info@powershift.org.nz with the subject line “Transport to Power Shift”.
We’ve also created this travel forum so you can stay in touch with others traveling from your area and arrange to share rides or just share ideas. Keep an eye on this in the next few weeks – we’ll be updating regularly!
Power Shift begins when registrations open at 9am on Friday 7 Dec and ends after 6.30pm on Sunday 9 Dec. In making your return travel plans, keep this in mind!
Busing nakedbus.co.nz or intercity.co.nz
To get to Power Shift NZ-Pacific on time by bus, you’ll likely need to travel on Thursday 6 December.
After Power Shift, you could catch the overnight bus south on Sunday night (9 Dec) or stay another night before catching Monday morning’s bus (10 Dec). This will be about $40 return.
From Wellington: We suggest you get tickets on NakedBus on Thursday 6 December to travel with fellow Power Shifters! This bus leaves at 8.50am on 6 Dec. Check it out here.
Flying jetstar.co.nz or airnewzealand.co.nz
Jetstar has a range of flights leaving from most of the major centres in NZ, check out their website here.
Air New Zealand’s latest deal, Night Rider flights, can be booked for $29 one way. This flies at 10pm from Wellington – Auckland on Thursday 6 Dec and AKL-WLG at 8.30pm on Sunday and Monday (9/10 Dec).
Currently flights are around $50 each way from Wellington, $60 from Christchurch and $80 from Dunedin on Jetstar. Get in quick!

Ferrying interislander.co.nz
Ferries from the top of the South to Wellington leave from Picton 5 or 6 times a day.
Book through Interislander and input the code PSNZ0AA5CQH to get a 20% discount on the EASY CHANGE return fare.
This will give you a flexible day ticket that is about $50. High schoolers will be eligible for a child’s fare. Terms and conditions at the bottom of this page.

Jayride have kindly set up a dedicated Power Shift page on their website that will let you access carpooling efforts to Power Shift from anywhere in the country - check it out here to log your journey and fill seats!

Travelling to and from Power Shift each day is easy too: buses, trains, ride-sharing, bike missions, boats and your feet of course!
The University of Auckland is conveniently located in central Auckland. It’s an easy walk or cycle from many accommodation options, and is well-connected to public transport if you’re staying further out.
Check out the MAXX journey planner for buses and trains within Auckland. You can also hire bikes for the day all around Auckland’s CBD – keep your eyes out!
