Power Shift – Not just for New Zealanders…
Although Power Shift is being held in Auckland, we’re hoping that people from as many Pacific Island nations, and plenty of people from the Pasifika community in New Zealand, will be able to come too.
Nations in the Pacific are already facing some of the most urgent and serious effects from climate change of any place in the world. That’s why it’s so important that Power Shift brings New Zealanders and young leaders from across the Pacific together to learn from each other and stand in solidarity.
We appreciate the extra effort and cost it will take to make it to Power Shift and are currently working on finding funding which might help offset the cost for some people.
If you are interested and want to stay in the loop on potential funding, or have other questions about Power Shift, please contact 350 Aotearoa’s Pacific Coordinator at Koreti@350.org.
Along with support from UNESCO, before Power Shift on the 4th to 6th of December we will run a forum called Power Shift Pacific: Youth Looking Beyond Disaster.
With up to a hundred young people coming together from across the Pacific Islands, we thought we should make the most of the opportunity. This forum will give Pacific Island and Maori youth the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and build their capacity in areas of disaster risk reduction, management and response, and decrease vulnerabilities of island communities. Time will also be spent preparing for a local action campaign that will be launched at Power Shift NZ-Pacific and implemented across the Pacific Islands. Find out more and apply here.
