Pasefika Youth!
Nations in the Pacific are already facing some of the most urgent and serious effects from climate change of any place in the world.
We want to bring young New Zealand Pacific Islanders to Power Shift to learn more about this big issue and help get the message out for our Pacific neighbours and family!
We know that to some Pacific people coming to Power Shift might be a bit daunting for those who have never talked much about climate change before, but we’ll be running heaps of introductory workshops both before Power Shift and at Power Shift too!
Along with support from UNESCO, immediately before Power Shift on the 4th to 6th of December we will be running a forum called Power Shift Pacific: Youth Looking Beyond Disaster.
With up to a hundred young people coming together from across the Pacific Islands, we thought we should make the most of the opportunity. This forum will give Pacific Island and Maori youth the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and build their capacity in areas of disaster risk reduction, management and response, and decrease vulnerabilities of island communities. Time will also be spent preparing for a local action campaign that will be launched at Power Shift NZ-Pacific and implemented across the Pacific Islands. Find out more and apply here.
We REALLY want to see a huge group of Pacific Islanders at Power Shift and want to get as many people from Auckland and Wellington along as possible!
We know it’s expensive to get there from Wellington, so we’ve put together a limited number of scholarships for Pacific youth to apply to attend – to cover ticket and transport costs. Fill in the form below to apply for a scholarship.
